Singer Paula Delaney to complete bungee jump dressed as Amy Winehouse

May 15 2009 by Amy Salter, Southport Visiter

A SINGER from Southport is doing a bungy jump dressed as Amy Winehouse to raise money for a children’s charity.

Paula Delaney, 23, performs as the Rehab star as part of a tribute act, and is about to don her trademark beehive and tattoos for a series of daredevil jumps.

The singer, who moved from Scarisbrick to Carnforth in Lancashire two years ago, decided to raise money for the charity after her partner’s friend Paul Askew, lost a son to cerebral palsy.

Paula said: “Rainbow House is a charity near to where I live."

"The charity looks after children with different conditions including cerebral palsy so I wanted to raise some money for them. It’s only a small charity and I’ve supported them before.”

The former Greenbank pupil’s first jump will be from a crane in Carnforth on May 25. She is then aiming to complete a base jump (a parachute jump from the top of a tall building) and a parachute jump from a plane to raise further funds.

Paula, who has performed in Southport many times, is taking time out from her career as a singer to complete the stunts.

She said: “I’m currently putting an album together and I gig all over Europe. I do my own songs and covers as well. I also started doing an AmyWinehouse tribute act after someone told me I sounded like her, it’s just a bit of fun. I organise a few charity events because it’s good to give something back. I’m scared about doing these jumps but I’m sure I’ll be alright.”

Anyone wanting to see Paula complete her first Amy Winehouse jump can go along to Carnforth Inn, in Carnforth on May 25 at 12pm.

Rainbow House recently launched a crisis appeal for emergency funding. Facilities at the centre could be forced to close if enough cash isn’t raised.

People wanting to sponsor Paula can make a donation directly to Rainbow House at www.justgiving.com/rainbowhouse or by calling 01704-823276.

OK, so the Jump was amazing - tough, scary, terrifying but amazing - so far I have raised £400 for Rainbow house - the good news is that the next event - the Sky dive is booked -arrraaarrrgh - it will be taking place on the 31st of August - let me know if you want to come and support me - also please please sponsor me, all proceeds going to Rainbow house again.

Keep a look out for a flying Amy Winehouse! Also if you have any other ideas in mind that you would like little Miss daring to do, then throw your suggestions my way and I will let you know. I am also happy to help and support other charity fund Raising events.
